International Visiting Scholars Engage Marywood Music Students

Published

On December 3, 2025, the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance welcomed two distinguished international scholars from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (Brazil) for lectures, workshops, and collaboration with Marywood students.

Dr. Daniel Tápia, a Grammy Award–winning musician, composer, and scholar specializing in music technology, audio production, and media scoring, visited Marywood to consult on the ongoing development of the university’s music production facilities. During his visit, he met with faculty, toured existing spaces, and provided recommendations on equipment selection, signal flow, studio layout, and long-term infrastructure planning. His expertise helped inform the department’s strategic vision for expanding studio resources and strengthening future initiatives in music production, recording, and creative technology, offering valuable guidance as Marywood continues to enhance hands-on learning opportunities in these rapidly evolving areas of the music industry.

The department also welcomed Dr. Potiguara Menezes, composer, guitarist, and musicologist, who worked closely with Marywood’s guitar and composition students and shared perspectives from his research on Brazilian music, intercultural composition, and popular traditions such as samba and choro.
