Prepare for a Rewarding Teaching Career with a Early Childhood and Special Education Degree

Marywood's Early Childhood and Special Education program prepares you for the challenges and rewards of teaching persons with exceptional learning needs at all levels of development from birth to age 21. Your coursework in professional studies and liberal arts鈥攖aught in small classes and enhanced with real-world experience beginning in your first year鈥攚ill emphasize creative thinking, the evaluation of contemporary educational issues, and development of leadership skills.

The faculty will consider you a professional colleague as well as a student: teacher candidates are required to maintain professional membership in the Council for Exceptional Children. You'll graduate prepared to be a leader in the areas of intellectual disability, behavior disorders, learning disabilities, and multiple disabilities; you'll be ready to serve as a teacher in grades K through 12 in a school or residential setting, as a professional in adult services, or in another position of responsibility in this growing field.

Hands-On Experience

Students will get plenty of hands-on experience because they need 190 field hours in order to confidently begin to student teach in their senior year.
