Share Your Passion for Reading and Writing with an English/Secondary Education Certificate
Do you have a passion to teach all grade level specialties like music or grade 7-12 subjects? Do you have a passion to share your knowledge with students at the primary level to the secondary level?
ÌÇÐÄapp can offer you the opportunity to fulfill this passion.
The M.A.T. program in Secondary/K-12 Education is designed for the candidate whose goals include initial certification in a secondary or K-12 subject and an M.A.T. degree.
Full transfer credit can be received for content courses in the specializations based upon comparable prior credits earned.
- Nine credit hours of course work that give candidates an understanding of foundation of education, of human development and the psychology of the teaching/ learning process.
- Ten credit hours that focus on general and specific teaching methodologies as well as the reading process.
- Twelve credit hours focusing on developing candidates’ understanding of working with learners that have special needs.
- Six credit hours in student teaching and seminar
- Six credit hours in core courses, providing the candidate the opportunity to integrate theory and practice in both research and learning theory.
Certification Information:
- Teacher certification requires completion of an approved program and qualifying scores on state tests.
- On the undergraduate level, students must earn their bachelor's degree in their specialty area and in education.
- On the graduate level, students can pursue the certification only or the certification and the MAT degree.

Graduate Admissions Requirements

- “B” average during undergraduate study or demonstrated potential for graduate work

The Education Program is located in the The McGowan Center for Graduate and Professional Studies located on the corner of University and North Washington Avenues. This facility contains classrooms and related clinical/professional space.

Morris K. Udall Scholarship
The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government, and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development, and education.
