• The Peer Writing Center: All undergraduate students may utilize.
• The Writing Specialist: All Marywood students may utilize, including graduate students.

Tutors do not edit or "correct" student essays. Students are active participants in their personalized writing tutoring appointment with the goal of becoming a better writer rather than simply producing better papers.

Absolutely! Students may seek writing assistance for any college writing but should visit or contact the tutoring center for help with specific course content. 

• any stage of the essay writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, or editing
• understanding and clarifying writing assignment directions, scoring, and other requirements
• formatting documents, bibliographies, and citations according to the required format (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
• academic and discipline-specific writing style, vocabulary, and sentence structure
• identifying and building on writing strengths and improving weaknesses
• focus and clarity
• essay, paragraph, and sentence structure and organization
• grammar
• fluidity and writing style
• thesis statements
• scholarship essay writing
• job/graduate school application materials (in collaboration with Career Services)

Students must make their own appointments using their Marywood email address. Please do not email the Writing Center or peer tutors to make an appointment for you. A confirmation email and directions will be emailed upon booking completion.

Students are limited to three appointments per week.

Please bring all relevant writing, directions, notes, rubrics, etc. with you to the appointment on paper or a laptop. You may bring prewriting, outlining, drafts, but please have writing started. Please come with a specific concern in mind for a smoother appointment (example: thesis statement, organization, grammar, citations). There is an option to upload documents to the appointment screen, but please know that tutors may not have the opportunity to view before appointment. Consider this when choosing your time and please come on time.

The Writing Center does not offer feedback via email. Requests for such will be denied.

Appointments can be made in 30, 45, or 60 minute periods based on availability and need. Appointments default to 30 minutes unless otherwise changed.

• Multi-lingual or ELL students may work with any tutor but should first consider meeting with the Writing Specialist.
• Students who require intensive English language support beyond writing should contact their advisor or the Intensive English Program. 
• Students looking for help understanding content, not writing, should contact the Tutoring Center.

Students with documented and undocumented disabilities may work with any writing tutor without having to disclose any information pertaining to the disability; however, they are encouraged to work with the Writing Specialist, who is a professional, trained and experienced in teaching writing to students with disabilities.

• Students who are in quarantine may still use the center by selecting the virtual option. You may edit this at any time.
• The center will still hold appointments virtually at the tutor's discretion in the event of inclement weather.
  • If you wish to cancel, please do so well before your scheduled appointment.
• All students should check their Marywood email the morning of and a few hours before their scheduled appointment for any changes or cancellations.
